I didn't have my girls ears pierced when they were little because I wanted them to be able to decide. When my oldest turned 8 she wanted her's done for her birthday. I figured she was old enough to care for them, so we went to the mall and got her pierced. Now, this year, for her 12th birthday, she decided she wanted a second hole. I let her get it done, but this is the LAST piercing I will allow on my watch. She will have to wait until she is 18 if she wants to go further.

I don't think I would. Why do something your kid might not want later? I got mine done when I was 8 or 9 and liked getting to decide to do it :)

I have a son - so no daughter experience here... but I can say that if/when we DO have a girl, she'll be waiting to get them pierced. I want her to WANT them, and have it be a responsibility of her OWN, keeping them clean and dry & whatnot. Momma doesn't need 1 more thing to look after..... ;)
